Wake Forest Announces 2014 Football Schedule

WISNTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference today announced the 2014 football schedule for all conference members.
Wake Forest will have six home games this fall, four against ACC foes and a pair of non-conference games. The Deacons will also make two non-conference road games and four ACC road trips.
Under first-year head coach Dave Clawson, the Deacons will open the schedule on Thursday, August 28 at Louisiana-Monroe. For the first time since 2005, Wake Forest will play all of its non-conference foes at the front end of the schedule, finishing the season with eight straight ACC games.
Wake Forest's other non-league foes include the home opener against Gardner-Webb at BB&T Field on Sept. 6 and a home game with Army on Sept. 20. The Deacons' second non-league road game will be at first-time opponent Utah State on Sept. 13.
In the ACC, the Deacons will play six games against Atlantic Division rivals and a pair of crossover games.
Clawson's first ACC opponent will be new member Louisville when the Deacons visit the Cardinals on Sept. 27. The Deacons also visit Florida State on Oct. 4 before the ACC home opener with Syracuse on Oct. 18.
Wake Forest will play a pair of Thursday games this season. The opener at ULM is scheduled for Thursday as well as the Nov. 6 home date with Clemson.
The Deacons' two cross over games with opponents from the Coastal Division will occur in the final two weeks of the regular season. Wake Forest hosts Virginia Tech on Nov. 22 and visits Duke in the season finale on Nov. 29.
Schedule Notes
- Wake Forest's 2014 opponents were a combined 97-58 in 2013
- Wake Forest will face eight teams that went to a bowl game in 2013, including five bowl champions.
- This will be the seventh time Wake Forest will face a defending national champion.
- Wake Forest will have three-straight home ACC games for the first time since 2004.
