WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Syracuse rushed for 199 yards and scored 14 points off turnovers as the Orange defeated Wake Forest 30-7 on Saturday afternoon.
Wake Forest (2-5, 0-3 ACC) quarterback John Wolford was knocked out of the game in the second quarter and was held out of the rest of the game for evaluation. Wolford was 9-for-14 passing for 72 yards and one touchdown. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Tyler Cameron went 6-for-8 for 27 yards while redshirt junior Kevin Sousa saw playing time in the fourth quarter.
Syracuse (3-4, 1-2 ACC) was led by quarterback A.J. Long who passed for 176 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Running back Devante McFarlane rushed for 96 yards while receiver Steve Ishmael had six catches for 72 yards.
Ryan Janvion led Wake Forest with 12 tackles with eight solo stops and two tackle for losses. Marquel Lee added seven tackles while Kevin Johnson and Merrill Noel each had six.
Wake Forest struck first in the game as the Deacs drove 91-yards in a drive that spanned 6:07. E.J. Scott caught back-to-back passes as he had a 13-yard reception and a 16-yard catch. After getting to the Syracuse 25-yard line, Wolford hit Jonathan Williams twice including a 13-yard catch to the `Cuse five-yard line.
Following a false start, Wolford threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Serigne to put the Deacons up 7-0 midway through the first quarter. On the ensuing drive, Syracuse drove into Wake Forest territory but was stopped on the Wake Forest 15-yard line and kicked a field goal to make it a 7-3 game at the end of the quarter.
Syracuse quarterback A.J. Long rushed for a four-yard touchdown in the first drive of the second quarter for the Orange. On the following drive for Wake Forest, Wolford was intercepted by Robert Welsh and returned for a touchdown to give the Orange a 17-7 lead. Wolford was shaken up on the play and would not return to the game.
After leading 17-7 at halftime, Syracuse added a field goal to start the third quarter and forced a fumble from Cameron and returned it 51-yards for the score. Following another field goal, Syracuse led 30-7 to end the third quarter.
Each team was held scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Wake Forest hosts Boston College next Saturday at BB&T Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC's regional sports networks and can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Radio Network.

- Alexander Kinal had a career-long 65 yard punt in the second quarter. It was his eighth punt this season over 50 yards.
