
Deacons Set to Host UMBC on Thursday in NCAA Tournament

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's soccer received a bid to the 2014 NCAA Tournament and hosts UMBC on Thursday in the first round.
The Demon Deacons (10-7-1) and Retrievers (12-5-3) will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest has now earned a spot in the NCAA Championship for the 12th time in the last 13 years and the 18th time in school history. The Demon Deacons, who earned four straight trips to the College Cup from 2006-09 and won the 2007 NCAA National Championship, are 21-14-3 all-time in the tournament.
The Demon Deacons and the Retrievers have met once all-time with Wake Forest defeating UMBC 5-0 in 1989 in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is 3-3-1 in first round NCAA Tournament games.
The winner of Thursday's game will face fourth-seeded Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 23 at College Park, Md. in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
UMBC won the America East Conference Championship on Sunday for the third-straight season, defeating Hartford 2-1. The Retrievers have won six-straight games coming into the NCAA Tournament.
The ACC led the nation with seven teams selected in this year's tournament. Notre Dame was awarded the No. 1-overall seed.
