
Demon Deacons Cruise Past Western Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest wrapped up non-conference play with a 77-59 win over Western Carolina on New Year's Eve at the LJVM Coliseum.
Dearica Hamby posted her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Nicole Floyd added 11 points and eight rebounds and Amber Campbell finished the game with 11 points and four steals.
Wake Forest finished it's non-conference slate with a 9-5 record.
Western Carolina scored the first basket of the game before Wake Forest went on a 21-2 run over the next six minutes. Kelila Atkinson put Wake Forest on the board with two free throws with 18:42 on the clock and the Deacs capped the run with a Floyd layup at 13:12.
Wake Forest pushed the lead to 31 in the first half, 43-12 when Susie Webster scored with just over a minute left in the half. Kyia Hough scored for the Catamounts before Ataijah Taylor found Milan Quinn down low for the final basket of the half. The Demon Deacons led Western Carolina 45-14 at halftime.
The Deacs held Western Carolina to 19 percent shooting (4-of-21) in the first half while Wake Forest shot 60 percent (21-of-35) from the floor.
Western Carolina trailed by 32 early in the second half but cut the deficit down to 15, 66-51, with four and a half minutes to play. Millesa Calicott drained back-to-back threes to push the lead back to 21, 72-53 and the Demon Deacons cruised to the 77-59 victory.
The Demon Deacons dominated the boards, outrebounding Western Carolina 42-28. Wake Forest also scored 33 points off 24 Catamount turnovers.

Wake Forest finished non-conference play with a 9-5 record.
Senior Dearica Hamby posted her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Susie Webster posted career highs in points (6) and rebounds (4).
Freshmen Amber Campbell and Nicole Floyd scored in double figures for the fourth time in the last five games.

The Demon Deacons and Duke will tip-off at 2 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The Blue Devils have a commanding 58-18 edge in the all-time series.
Duke has won 40-straight games in the series with the last Demon Deacon win coming in the ACC Tournament on March 5, 1993.
