GREENSBORO, N.C. - Andy Lubahn, Jalen Robinson, Ian Harkes and Jacori Hayes have been named to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.
Lubahn earned the academic accolades for the third time in his career as a Demon Deacon, Robinson was honored for the second time, and Harkes and Hayes each earned spots on the squad for the first time.
Wake Forest's four selections were tied for the third-most in the conference, trailing only Notre Dame's six and Duke's five.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
A senior native of Erie, Pa., Lubahn bounced back strongly from an injury that limited him to only three games in 2012. The forward notched five goals and four assists to finish with 14 total points, good for third on the squad. Lubahn also made 11 starts in 16 appearances for Wake Forest. He finishes his decorated career in the old gold and black with 74 starts in 83 appearances, 27 goals, 11 assists and 65 total points; 11 of his goals were also of the game-winning variety.
Robinson, hailing from Catonsville, Md., signed a homegrown player contract with D.C. United following a 2013 season that saw him start 19 of a possible 21 contests along a strong back line. The talented sophomore anchored a defense that surrendered just 26 goals on the season and allowed the Demon Deacons to outshoot their opponents by a wide 338-221 margin. Robinson netted just one score, yet it could not have come at a more opportune time. With just 57 seconds remaining in regulation against top-ranked North Carolina on Sept. 28, he found the back of the net off a corner from Michael Gamble to lock up a 1-1 tie for Wake Forest. To cap his Demon Deacon career, Robinson earned Second Team All-ACC honors following the season.
The Deacons' leader in assists last season with seven, Harkes made an instant impact as a freshman midfielder. The Fairfax, Va., native was also the lone Demon Deacon to start all 21 contests en route to logging 1,887 minutes on the pitch, easily the most of any player on the roster. Harkes scored his lone goal of the season in the regular season finale against Syracuse, when he was able to deflect in a rebound following a cross from Chris Duvall.
Hayes rounds out the quartet of Wake Forest selections on the squad after a strong freshman campaign. The highly-touted recruit out of Bowie, Md., appeared in 18 games, making 11 starts as a midfielder. Hayes scored the first goal of his career as a substitute against Virginia Tech on Oct. 4 after corralling a loose ball in front of the net and sending a strike past the goalkeeper; he later added an assist in the same contest, playing a through ball to Sean Okoli that resulted in the third goal of the night for the Demon Deacons.
