WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The awards keep rolling in for Dearica Hamby as Monday, she was named to the All-ACC first team as voted on by the conferences' 15 head coaches. This comes after she earned first team All-ACC honors last week from the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Hamby is just the third Demon Deacon to earn All-ACC first team honors, joining her coach Jen Hoover and Tracy Connor.
This season was a record-setting one for the Marietta, Ga., native. She set the school-record for points in a season with 683 as well as rebounds in a season at 340. She also made and attempted more free throws (226-356) than any other Demon Deacon in a single-season. Her 22 double-doubles broke Connor's previous school-record of 20 which she set during the 1992-93 season.
Hamby was one of the most consistent players in the conference this year. She currently leads the ACC in scoring and rebounding at 22.0 points and 11.0 rebounds. No Demon Deacon has ever led the conference in scoring for a season and she is trying to join Hoover and Connor as the only players in school-history to pace the conference in rebounding.
Last week at the ACC Tournament, she led the Deacons to an opening round victory over Pitt with 25 points, 16 rebounds and a career-high eight assists. She also scored a game-high 29 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in the second round loss to North Carolina. Hamby averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in the two games and was named to the All-ACC Tournament second team.
