ATLANTA, Ga. - Wake Forest junior Dearica Hamby has earned WBCA All-Region honors as announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Hamby is one of 52 players to earn All-Region honors this season. From the group of 52, the WBCA will select its 10-member All-America Team which will be announced on Saturday, April 5, as part of the NCAA Women's Final Four festivities.
Hamby certainly had a season worthy of All-America consideration. She led the ACC in scoring and rebounding and set seven single-season school records. Hamby averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds per game this year and had a school-record 22 double-doubles. She scored more points, grabbed more rebounds and attempted and made more free throws than any Demon Deacon in a single-season.
Hamby produced night-in and night-out for Deacs as she matched her non-conference numbers during the grueling 16-game ACC season. Because of that consistency, she became just the third Demon Deacon to earn first team All-ACC honors. She was also named to the All-Tournament team at all three tournaments Wake Forest competed in this season, including the ACC Tournament where she averaged 27 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in the two games.
