NEW YORK CITY - Wake Forest's all-time leader in receptions, Michael Campanaro was selected with the 218th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday afternoon.
The 5-11, 190-pound wide receiver became the 150th Wake Forest player to be drafted in school history, and his selection marks the second consecutive year that the Demon Deacons have had a player picked in the seventh round. Tommy Bohanon was selected with the 215th pick by the New York Jets in 2013.
The speedy slot receiver wrapped up his career as a Demon Deacon with 229 catches, including a pair of games against Boston College (Nov. 3, 2012) and Louisiana-Monroe (Sept. 14, 2013) with an ACC-record 16 receptions. Campanaro's career receptions mark ranks fourth all-time within the conference and he is one of just 10 ACC players to record 200 or more catches in their collegiate career. He completed his career in the old gold and black with 2,506 yards (third-most in school history) and 14 receiving touchdowns.
Campanaro shined at the NFL Combine in February with an impressive 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, just three shy of the top mark at the event despite coming off a broken collarbone in early November. The former Demon Deacon also starred in the 40-yard dash with an official time of 4.46, putting him right on par with first-round picks Odell Beckham and Sammy Watkins who each ran a 4.43.
The Clarksville, Md., native will now join his hometown squad and a receiving corps that includes fellow ACC products Torrey Smith and LaQuan Williams, both of whom played their collegiate football at Maryland.
