WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Matches against three of last year's College Cup teams, including a trip to defending national champion UCLA, highlight the Wake Forest women's soccer team's challenging 2014 schedule.
The Demon Deacons will face eight teams that ended last season in the NSCAA top 25, including games against No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 Virginia, No. 4 Virginia Tech and No. 5 North Carolina.
Wake Forest will open the season at home on Aug. 25 against Wright State, followed by another home match against JMU on Aug. 29. The Demon Deacons will then travel to Kansas before taking on UNCW and Georgetown at Virginia Tech's tournament in Blacksburg, Va.
Non-conference play will end with a trip to West Coast where the Deacons will play road games against UCLA and Long Beach State.
This will be the first season that the ACC does not play a full round robin conference schedule. Teams will play 10 ACC games with the Demon Deacons missing Florida State, Louisville and Pitt in 2014.
Wake Forest will open ACC play against NC State on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. It will be former Wake Forest assistant Tim Santoro's first trip back to Spry Stadium since taking over as head coach of the Wolfpack last season.
The Demon Deacons will then travel to Virginia on Sept. 25 before returning home to host Notre Dame at Spry Stadium for the first time on Sept. 28.
Wake Forest will play at home against Clemson on Oct. 3 before traveling to face North Carolina on Oct. 9. The Demon Deacons have earned results in their last two trips to Fetzer Field, including their first-ever win there in 2012.
The Deacons will follow with another Tobacco Road rival, playing at Duke on Oct. 12, before traveling to Blacksburg for a second time to face Virginia Tech on Oct. 18. Wake Forest will welcome Boston College (Oct. 23) and Syracuse (Oct. 26) to town to close out its regular season home slate before finishing on the road at Miami on Nov. 2.
Wake Forest will play three preseason scrimmages at home, facing Charlotte on Aug. 12, Coastal Carolina on Aug. 14 and Ohio State on Aug. 16.
