WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Columbus Crew captain and former Wake Forest great Michael Parkhurst was named to the 2014 MLS All-Star roster as announced by the All-Star head coach, Caleb Porter on Saturday.
Parkhurst and the MLS All-Stars will face Bayern Munich on August 6 in Providence Park in Portland, Ore. for the 2014 MLS All-Star Game. It will be the third All-Star appearance for Parkhurst after being named to the roster in 2005 and in 2007. He is also the first Columbus Crew player to be honored for the All-Star game since 2010.
A standout defender, Parkhurst has made 18 starts and has played in 19 games since making his season debut on March 8 against D.C. United.
Parkhurst is in his first season with Columbus after spending the last six seasons in Europe. Earlier this year, he was named to the U.S. Men's National Team preliminary 30-man roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
