WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head men's golf coach Jerry Haas is set to play this week in the US Senior Open at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Okla.

He earned a spot in the field with a stellar 2-under par 68 and took medalist honors at the Florence Country Club in Florence, S.C., two weeks ago. Haas, who turned 50 last September, will be playing in his first senior major.

Haas has some history at Oak Tree National, as he advanced to the semifinals of the US Amateur at the course in 1984. That earned him a trip to the 1985 Masters, his first major appearance. He also played in the US Open four times and qualified for the 2006 PGA Championship.

Haas is one of four Demon Deacons in the field this week. He is joined by his brother Jay, who has finished no worse than 12th in any of his 12 events this season and he is second on the money list. Scott Hoch is the third Demon Deacon in the field while Billy Andrade, who is in his first season on the Champions Tour, is in the top-20 on the money list and has earned a spot in the field. All four players begin the tournament on Thursday afternoon.
