Deacons Open the Season on The Road at ULM
- Wake Forest will kickoff the 2014 season on the road when it travels to Monroe, La., to face ULM.
- Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPNU. The game can also be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network and online at WakeForestSports.com.
Wake Forest Storylines
- Thursday night's game will mark the beginning of the Dave Clawson era at Wake Forest. Clawson came to Wake Forest after a five-year stint at Bowling Green where he guided the Falcons to the 2013 MAC Championship and back-to-back bowl games in 2012 and 2013.
- True-freshman John Wolford is slated to take the first snap of the season at quarterback for the Deacs. He would be the first Demon Deacon true-freshman quarterback to start his first game on campus.
- Head coach Dave Clawson has indicated that a total of nine true-freshman could make their collegiate debuts Thursday night.
- The Demon Deacons have a 53-56-3 record in the program's previous 112 season-openers.
- For the first time since 2010, Wake Forest has named permanent captains for the season. Senior fullback Jordan Garside, senior defensive back Merrill Noel, junior linebackers Brandon Chubb and Hunter Williams as well as sophomore safety Ryan Janvion were all selected by their teammates to lead the squad this season.
The Opposition & Series History
- This will be just the second all-time meeting between Wake Forest and ULM.
- The Warhawks defeated Wake Forest last season 21-19 at BB&T Field.
- ULM is coming off a 6-6 campaign a year ago which included a 4-3 mark in the Sun Belt.
- The Warhawks return 17 starters in 2014 including nine on the defensive side of the ball.

- Wake Forest will host Gardner-Webb in its home-opener on Saturday, Sept. 6.
- The game is set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN3.
- The Deacs topped GWU 48-5 in the 2011 season-opener at BB&T Field.
