WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Virginia Tech scored two second half goals as Wake Forest fell 2-0 at Thompson Field on Friday night.

The Hokies (4-3-0, 1-1-0 ACC) scored in the 53rd minute and held off Wake Forest (3-3-0, 1-1-0 ACC) before adding a late goal to seal the 2-0 win.

Wake Forest had a couple chances in the first half on offense and outshot the Hokies 7-4 in the period. Jacori Hayes had a shot in the 16th minute that just barely went over the crossbar. Michael Gamble had a point-blank opportunity in the 20th minute that was saved by the Hokie goalkeeper to keep Wake Forest off the board.

Virginia Tech threatened later in the half as the Hokies' Collin Verfurth had an open shot but was saved by Ferrell who kept the game scoreless. Wake Forest had four corners in the first half compared to just one for Virginia Tech.

After halftime, the Hokies had a shot in the first minute of the period but it went too high. Hank Gauger nearly put Wake Forest up soon after on a header in the box but it just went over the crossbar.

Virginia Tech scored the first goal of the game in the 53rd minute as Ricardo John found a seam in the box and put one in to put the Hokies up 1-0.

The Hokies added another goal with 1:10 left in the game as Niels Kirsch netted the tally.

Notes
- Ian Harkes made his 27th consecutive start for Wake Forest.
- The loss snapped Wake Forest's three-game winning streak.
- Wake Forest had nine corner kicks compared to just one for Virginia Tech.
- The Demon Deacons were held without a goal for the first time since Nov. 12, 2013 when Virginia defeated Wake Forest 1-0 in the ACC Tournament.
- Wake Forest outshot Virginia Tech 12-9. The Demon Deacons have outshot every opponent this season.
- Alec Ferrell made three saves in the game.

Next Up
Wake Forest returns home on Tuesday to Spry Stadium as the Deacs host VMI at 7 p.m.
