WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Former Demon Deacon Janice Collins was named to the 2015 class of ACC Tournament Legends as announced by the league on Tuesday.
The Legends will be honored at the annual ACC Women's Basketball Legends' Luncheon on Saturday, March 7, at 10 a.m., and then will be introduced to the Coliseum crowd at halftime of the first semifinal game that afternoon. The ACC Women's Basketball Legends program honors both players and coaches from each of the ACC's 15 schools who have contributed to the league's rich tradition.
Collins has the honor of being Wake Forest's first-ever All-ACC honoree when she was named to the second team in 1985. That season, as a junior, she led the team in field goal percentage (.507) while averaging 12.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Collins again averaged 12.7 points per game as a senior and increased her rebounding average to 6.5 boards per game. She shot .753 (67-89) from the free-throw line and started all 29 games. She also had 56 assists and 49 steals in her final season.
For her career she played in 109 games with 80 starts. She amassed 992 points, 548 rebounds, 186 assists and 146 steals.
Collins was a four-year letterwinner from 1983-86 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications and Theatre Arts with a concentration in Communication/Rhetoric.
Collins is currently a faculty member at the University of Illinois in the College of Media and has earned multiple Emmy, Best of Gannett, Associated Press, NABJ, and AABJ awards for writing, editing, video journalism, reporting and producing.
