TRINITY, Texas -- Wake Forest sophomore golfer Will Zalatoris helped the United States capture the championship at the 2015 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship. The Americans took the crown at the biannual tournament that features four-player teams (two men, two women) from 20 countries competing at Whispering Pines Golf Club.
The United States team of Zalatoris, Philip Barbaree, Mariel Galdiano and Hannah O'Sullivan finished the three-round best-ball tournament with a combined score of 38-under, edging Mexico by one shot.
Zalatoris tied for the men's lead with two eagles during the event, while also accumulating nine birdies.
The title marked the fifth time in eight tournaments that the United States won the championship. Many future professional stars have competed in the event, including Jordan Spieth (2009) and Brandt Snedeker (2003) leading the Americans to victories.
