WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Several former Demon Deacons have taken their careers to the next level to the NFL and are currently on active rosters. We take a look at what each former Deac did around the NFL over the weekend.
FB Tommy Bohanon, New York Jets
Bohanon had the week off, as they Jets had their bye. The Jets will take on the Washington Redskins next week at home.
WR Michael Campanaro, Baltimore Ravens
Campanaro scored his first touchdown of the season on a scampering 8-yard handoff that ended with a backflip into the end zone. Unfortunately, the second-year pro later suffered a back injury, and has been placed on season-ending Injured Reserve. "I know I belong on the field when I'm out there. It's definitely motivation going into next year for myself. Right now, my focus is on getting healthy and supporting the guys," Campanaro said.
WR Chris Givens, Baltimore Ravens
In his first week in a Ravens uniform, Givens saw action and was targeted twice, but did not record any statistics in a 33-30 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
LB Justin Jackson, Dallas Cowboys
After signing with the Cowboys in June, Jackson tore his ACL in practice in early August. He will miss the 2015 season.
DB Kevin Johnson, Houston Texans
Solidifying his position on the Texans' defense, Johnson received his second straight start in a 27-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The first-round draft pick made five tackles on the day and also picked up his third deflected pass of the season. Local Houston media are pointing to Johnson as part of the Texans' bright future despite a 1-4 start on the season.
DB Merrill Noel, Buffalo Bills
After being released by the team on September 4, Noel was signed to the Bills practice squad.
LB Calvin Pace, New York Jets
Like Bohanon, Pace had the week off as the Jets had their bye. The Jets will take on the Washington Redskins next week at home. Pace has started 144 career games in the NFL and made a total of 590 tackles with 57 sacks.
LB Zach Thompson, Baltimore Ravens
After seeing action in all four preseason games for the Ravens and recording a tackle in the final preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons, Thompson was placed on Injured Reserve.
FB Nikita Whitlock, New York Giants
Once again, Whitlock received the start at fullback and also played snaps on the defensive side of the ball. New York media said that he was disruptive at defensive tackle, drawing a holding penalty on San Francisco 49ers G Alex Boone in a 30-27 win. He also played extensively on the Giants' special teams.
LB Kyle Wilber, Dallas Cowboys
In a tough 30-6 loss to the New England Patriots, Wilber recorded two tackles on the day. Wilber is in his fourth season with the Cowboys and has 11 starts, 88 tackles, and 3.5 sacks for his career.
