WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest athletics was out in full force for the 2015 Hit the Bricks event on Thursday.

The Demon Deacons came out to support the campus-wide event, which benefits the Brian Piccolo Fund for cancer research. Piccolo was the 1964 ACC Player of the Year for Wake Forest before going on to play for the Chicago Bears. The subject of the acclaimed movie "Brian's Song", Piccolo lost his battle with cancer in 1970 at the young age of 27.

Hit the Bricks is an annual event in which participants run or walk laps around Hearn Plaza to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

This year, one of the speakers at the closing ceremony was field hockey player Heather Wiley, who shared her story of losing her mother to cancer.
