Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson

Opening Statement…
"That was a tough one. I told our team that if football was just based on effort, we'd be undefeated. But it's also based on execution and understanding situations and making critical plays. When you have four turnovers in the second half, you don't give yourself a chance against anybody. We threw two in the red zone in a tight area, and it was a one-point football game. If we kick a field goal, we've got a chance to win it. If you look back at that game, we did a great job in the first half getting up 19-10, and then we absolutely handed them a touchdown before the half that makes it a 19-17 game. Then there's the turnover that leads to their three points. Our defense played great in the second half. We didn't score any points in the second half. This one stings. This one really stings."

On the mood in the Wake Forest locker room…
"The guys are upset. They care, and they work hard, and they put a lot into it. They understood the stage. They wanted to play well, and in a lot of ways we did. But we're right there, and we just don't get it home. We're light years from a year ago but nowhere near where we need to be. That's a defense that gave up 79 yards a week ago. We didn't move the ball at all against defenses like that a year ago, and now we're moving. We get to the red zone, and we find ways to beat ourselves. One of our big points of emphasis is ‘Don't beat yourself,' and that's turnovers and sacks. In this game, just look at how much yardage we could've had if you take away the sacks."

On heading into a bye week…
"You'd love to have a bye week sometime between week five and week seven. That's really the halfway point in the season. This has been a tough stretch. It's been nine straight weeks with a young football team, and guys are tired physically and they're tired mentally. We've got to heal up a little bit and kind of refocus and maybe give us a chance to kind of look at what we have and reprioritize the next three weeks. We've got a murderous road ahead of us here, so we're going to have to play really good football to be competitive from here on in."

Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino

Opening Statement…
"Happy to get out of here with a win. It was a battle. Offensively, we played a little better in the first half. We had a great two-minute drive that ends up being huge for us. The defense really came to play and in the second half really dominated. We came up with big interceptions. We got dinged up a little bit. It was good to have Kyle [Bolin] be able to come in and execute the offense and drive the ball and take a lot of time off the clock. Unfortunately, we didn't finish it with a touchdown. But, again, our defense did a great job. It's a good win for us."

On the defense's response after the blocked field goal…
"They did exactly what they did last week. We were able to come up with a good pass rush. We forced him to make some errant throws. We had good coverage too. It was a good way to end the game."

Was Kyle [Bolin] in there because of injury?...
"Yeah, that was some of it. Reggie [Bonnafon] was done. He couldn't go back in. Lamar [Jackson] was nicked up a little bit with his ankle. So, Kyle came in. We've got all kinds of confidence in Kyle. He really understands the offense. He knows what we're doing. I thought he did a great job of executing. We started to run the ball better. Jeremy Smith had some nice runs for us. We had some good holes for him to get. That was encouraging to see, but we still aren't doing what we need to do offensively."

On the offensive performance…
"We did a great job getting turnovers. We just weren't able to take it and go score. Third downs killed us in the second half. We just weren't able to get it done."

On Lamar Jackson's Performance…
"You know, sporadic, up and down. He took off and ran a few times. I thought he did come back at the end of the first half and really did a nice job taking what we were telling him on the sideline and taking it out to the field. He made some really nice throws on the drive where we went right down and scored. We were able to get the ball to [James] Quick and [Jamari] Staples and that helped us a lot."

Wake Forest Freshman Quarterback Kendall Hinton

On the frustration of not scoring in the second half...
"This one hurts because the defense did such a great job of keeping them out of the end zone and giving us the ball back. As quarterbacks, we've just got to make plays because everybody's relying on us to put it in the end zone."

On the dual quarterback game plan...
"I just trust in Coach Clawson's game plan and just know that we're going to change offenses as different quarterbacks go in different situations. I felt fine."

On the game plan from the Louisville defense...
"They did a pretty good job of game planning against our zone read, scrambles, quarterback runs, and things like that. It's just something we've got to game plan against. But give credit to Louisville, they did great."

On his interception while under duress...
"I probably shouldn't have thrown that, should have just thrown it out of bounds. We really set them up for better field position. I don't want to say it's an immature play, but it's just something I've got to grow from." On the last drive with under two minutes to go... "I was trying to get outside the pocket and give one of our receivers a chance to make a play on the ball. I got pressure from the back side, and it's just something we have to live with."

Wake Forest Senior Linebacker Brandon Chubb

On the month of October…
"There have been some devastating losses, especially this one. This hurt too. This game reminded me of the Louisville game last year when we lost in the last second. Losing by one point to an ACC team, which you easily could have beat, especially towards the end of the season, is devastating."

On halftime locker room…
"I told them to come out fast, and that is one thing we have not done. We needed to come out fast and keep fighting because we can beat these guys. Keep your heads up; the game is not over. We play four quarters, not two."

Wake Forest Sophomore Quarterback John Wolford

On second half…
"The defense played really good, and when we got the ball we turned it over. We really should have won that game. I think we just gave it away. We just want to win."

On intercepted ball thrown to K.J. Brent...
"We had what we wanted. They rolled a one, so that is a play where if we get our one-on-one matchup, I'm trying to throw a jump ball. The decision was fine, but the ball was not good. Louisville's defender made a good play. I wish we could get some throws back."
