WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Several former Demon Deacons have taken their careers to the next level to the NFL and are currently on active rosters. We take a look at what each former Deac did around the NFL over the weekend.
FB Tommy Bohanon, New York Jets
Continuing to impact the Jets' passing game, Bohanon had one reception for 18 yards in a 22-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. That was his third reception of the season. Bohanon has had four starts this season in his third year with the Jets.
WR Michael Campanaro, Baltimore Ravens
Campanaro scored his first touchdown of the season on Oct. 1, but the second-year pro later suffered a herniated disc, and has been placed on season-ending Injured Reserve. "I know I belong on the field when I'm out there. It's definitely motivation going into next year for myself. Right now, my focus is on getting healthy and supporting the guys," Campanaro said.
WR Chris Givens, Baltimore Ravens
Breaking out of a scoring slump this season, Givens caught his first touchdown of the year for the Ravens in a 22-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In total, he had four receptions for 37 yards on the day, with the touchdown coming on a 14-yard grab. BaltimoreRavens.com said that Givens is increasingly becoming the Ravens' deep-ball threat and the team's No. 2 receiver.
LB Justin Jackson, Dallas Cowboys
After signing with the Cowboys in June, Jackson tore his ACL in practice in early August. He will miss the 2015 season.
DB Kevin Johnson, Houston Texans
Johnson was part of the biggest upset of the week as the Texans took down the previously undefeated Cincinnati Bengals 10-6 on Monday Night Football. The rookie and first-round draft pick received his third start in a row, made three tackles, and recorded two pass deflections in the victory. He was especially effective in the fourth quarter as the Texans preserved their lead and closed out the game. "Anytime you draft a corner in the first round, you're hoping he can help you win a game like that, and that's what he did," Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said. "He's a very smart guy. What he gives up in size sometimes, he makes up for in competitiveness and quickness. He's just a real good kid to coach." Johnson was named the "Gruden Grinder" after the game by former head coach and current analyst Jon Gruden.
OL Joe Looney, Tennessee Titans
Looney has secured his spot in the Titans' starting lineup, getting his third straight start on the offensive line in a 27-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
DB Merrill Noel, Buffalo Bills
After being released by the team on September 4, Noel was signed to the Bills practice squad.
LB Calvin Pace, New York Jets
Pace was once again in the starting lineup in Week 10 and made three tackles in a 22-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Now in his 13th season in the NFL, Pace has hit the 600-tackle mark for his career in addition to his 59.0 sacks and three interceptions.
LB Zach Thompson, Baltimore Ravens
After seeing action in all four preseason games for the Ravens and recording a tackle in the final preseason contest against the Atlanta Falcons, Thompson was placed on Injured Reserve.
FB Nikita Whitlock, New York Giants
A Giants.com writer called Whitlock a "Swiss Army knife" for his ability to play offense, defense, and special teams. He didn't record any rushing statistics in a heartbreaking 27-26 loss to the undefeated New England Patriots, but saw a lot of action on the defensive line.
LB Kyle Wilber, Dallas Cowboys
Wilber was back in the starting lineup for the Cowboys on Sunday, recording two unassisted tackles in a 10-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
