GREENSBORO, N.C. – Hayden Partain of Wake Forest men's soccer has been named the ACC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
A Demon Deacon has now been honored by the ACC in six consecutive weeks dating back to September and seven times overall. Partain is the third different Demon Deacon to be named Offensive Player of the Week, joining Jack Harrison and two-time winner Jon Bakero .
Last week, Partain scored three of Wake Forest's eight goals against Davidson and Louisville. In the first game of the week against the Wildcats, Partain netted his first goal of the season on a rebound chance after Harrison's initial shot was stopped by the goalkeeper.
On Friday night against the Cardinals, Partain scored the first two goals of the game just 10:41 into the contest to help the Deacs off to a running start on the way to clinching the ACC regular-season title. His first goal came on a strike from 30 yards out that beat the goalkeeper as it dipped toward the ground on its way to goal. His second goal of the night put the Deacs up 2-0 when he put home another rebound chance, this time after Bakero's initial shot was stopped.
Wake Forest, tabbed as the No. 1 team in the nation by the Top Drawer Soccer, Soccer America and NSCAA national polls this week, awaits the winner of eighth-seeded Duke and ninth-seeded Louisville for its ACC Quarterfinal matchup on Sunday, Nov. 8. First kick for the match is set for 1 p.m. The Deacs' opponent will be determined Wednesday night when Duke and Louisville battle it out in the first round of the ACC Championship in Durham, North Carolina, at 7 p.m.
