Wake Forest Beats Richmond, Earn Third-Straight Win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team picked up its third-straight win on Sunday with a 43-33 victory over Richmond at LJVM Coliseum.
Amber Campbell led all players with 17 points and Ataijah Taylor added 15 points, four assists and four rebounds. Milan Quinn finished the game with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Wake Forest improved to 8-3 on the season while Richmond dropped to 6-5.
Richmond held a 9-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Wake Forest opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run to jump out to a 17-6 lead. Taylor scored back-to-back baskets to give the Demon Deacons their first lead, 10-9, with 7:09 on the clock. Taylor assisted Wake Forest's next bucket, a Campbell 3-pointer. Richmond broke the second period scoring drought with a free throw at 3:53 and the teams traded scores to end the quarter. Wake Forest led 19-14 at the half.
After an even third quarter, Wake Forest maintained the five-point lead 30-25.
Campbell opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer and Taylor knocked down a pair of free throws to extend Wake Forest's lead to 37-25 with 4:28 remaining on the clock. It was Wake Forest's biggest lead of the day.
Richmond cut the lead to eight on three different plays late in the final period and started fouling to extend the game. Taylor went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and Campbell added one made foul shot in the final 90 seconds to secure the 43-33 victory.
Wake Forest wraps up non-conference play at the Surfing Santa Classic hosted by FIU in Miami, Fla. The Demon Deacons face Hampton on Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. Wake Forest will then face either Rhode Island or FIU on Dec. 29.
