WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - With just two games left in the regular season senior Dearica Hamby is nearing the end of her Wake Forest women's basketball career. The forward is poised to leave as the program's all-time leader in scoring and rebounding, breaking the records set by her head coach Jen Hoover.
What Hamby has accomplished is even more impressive when you take in to consideration that she played minimal minutes as a freshman and averaged just 3.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game that season. For her career she has averaged 13.6 points and 7.8 rebounds. Both averages put her in the top 10 in the Wake Forest record book.
This season Hamby has moved in to third place on Wake Forest's all-time scoring list with 1,688 career points. She sits in third place behind Amy Privette (1,722) and Jen Hoover (1,728). On the rebounding list Hamby is second behind Hoover. Hamby has 969 rebounds while Hoover grabbed 1,006 boards in her career. Hoover is currently the only player in school history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds but Hamby is close to joining her.
Hamby needs just 41 points and 38 rebounds to pass Hoover on the career record lists. With three games guaranteed she needs to average 13.7 points and 12.7 rebounds, both well within her capabilities.
Hamby is also in the top 10 in field goals made and attempted, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, steals, blocks, double-doubles, games played and started and minutes played.
The Demon Deacons are guaranteed two more regular season games and one game in the ACC Tournament for Hamby to continue to etch her name in the record books.
