WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest Football is now nine practices through the spring season after completing another practice on a beautiful Tuesday morning at the Doc Martin Football Complex.
After the Deacons completed their first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday at BB&T Field, head coach Dave Clawson thought that the team had a good showing at practice. "After that first scrimmage, you always worry about a lull, and I thought, we practiced probably for about an hour and 50 minutes and I thought the first hour and a half was really good and I thought peeled out at the end a little bit," said Clawson.
Since the start of the spring and after the team was able to get into a game situation on Saturday, Clawson has been most impressed with the improvement at the wide receiver position and offensive line thus far. "I think they [wide receivers and offensive line] might be the two most improved on the team," said Clawson. "Again I think our offensive line continues to get better, it's a more cohesive unit."
"If you when our first offense is out there, how many of those guys weren't here a year ago," asked Clawson. "What's fun is that all of these guys are growing here together. It's incremental, but they're all growing together."
The Demon Deacons will have their tenth practice on Thursday, with helmets only, before they take BB&T Field again on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. for their second scrimmage of the spring. "Thursday's practice is helmet only, we won't hit, and we'll go through 2-minute and end of the game situations," explained Clawson. The scrimmage will be open to the public.
