WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Reigning champion Wake Forest headlines the field for the 2015 Primland Collegiate Invitational. The host Demon Deacons are one of nine schools that will compete Sept. 28-29 in the second annual tournament at the Highland Course at Primland in Meadows of Dan, Va.
The Demon Deacons won last year's inaugural event with a score of 38-under-par, edging Auburn by one shot. The 54-hole tournament consists of 36 holes on the first day of play, followed by 18 holes on the second day.
Wake Forest is one of seven schools in the event that competed in an NCAA Regional last year. Auburn, Loyola (Md.), North Carolina, Penn State, Pepperdine and Virginia Tech are also coming off a season that concluded with postseason play. Davidson and Yale round out the field at this year's tournament.
Wake Forest, Auburn, Penn State, Virginia Tech and North Carolina will compete in the event for the second straight year. Davidson, Loyola (Md.), Pepperdine and Yale are making their debut at Primland this season.
"We are delighted to renew our association with Primland and could not think of a better place to host this event," said head coach Jerry Haas. "Last year we had an exciting field, representing some of the best college players in the country, and again we are looking forward to seeing these rising talents. We are committed to making this tournament one of the premier events on the East Coast."
Admission for spectators will be $10 and proceeds will go to First Tee of the Triad, a regional charity which utilizes golf to teach young people, ages eight to 18, essential character traits and valuable life skills.
The tournament will be the second of the 2015-16 season for the Demon Deacons. They make their season debut Sept. 12-13 at the Rod Myers Invitational at Duke University.
