Deacs Look to Rebound Against ACC-Rival Syracuse
• Coming off its first loss of the season, Wake Forest looks to rebound on Saturday night at Spry Stadium against ACC-opponent Syracuse.
• Saturday marks just the fourth matchup all-time between the Demon Deacons and Orange. Last year, the Deacs traveled to Syracuse and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Orange.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night in a 1-0 loss to No. 18 Elon.
• Elon's lone goal came on a penalty kick with 4:13 to go in the first half. The call was made when it was ruled a Wake Forest player touched the ball with his hand in the penalty area.
• The goal in the 41st minute snapped a 327-minute scoreless streak for the Deacs that dated back to Aug. 30 in a 3-2 victory over FIU.
Scouting the Orange
• Saturday's game will mark the second conference game in a row for the Orange and the first contest since last Friday night, Sept. 11.
• Last week, Syracuse battled Louisville to a 1-1 draw at home. The Orange scored in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 lead, but the Cardinals got on the board with 1:03 to go in the first half. From there, neither team could gain an advantage in the draw.
• Syracuse is led by Oyvind Alseth, who has scored three goals on eight shots this season. He is the only player to have scored multiple times this season for the Orange.
Senior Leadership
• One of the captains for this year's Wake Forest squad, Michael Gamble has been the definition of a senior leader this season for the Deacs.
• The senior ranks second in the ACC in goals scored behind Duke's Jeremy Ebobisse, who has notched five this season. With two game-winning goals already against FGCU and Pittsburgh, he is tied for the conference lead with four other players.
• Gamble has notched a team-high four goals this season. The mark is good enough for 18th-best nationally.
Defending Spry
• Dating back to 2014, Wake Forest has defended Spry Stadium quite well. Over the course of the last 18 contests, the Demon Deacons are 14-3-1 at home.
Saturday's Promotions
• Saturday night's match against Syracuse marks the annual Genna Wiley Memorial Match. All fans wearing pink to the game will be receive free admission to Spry Stadium. The first 250 fans at the match will also receive a free rally towel.
• On the hill, Brynn's Frozen Yogurt will be selling discounted frozen yogurt to benefit the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund.
• With numerous athletic events around campus on Friday night, students that received stamps at each of Friday night's events can turn their sheet in on Saturday at the soccer game for a prize at the marketing booth.
• As part of the Spry's Army Loyalty Program, Saturday night's game marks the second opportunity to get a stamp toward a free Wake Forest Soccer scarf later in the season.
• Finally, the Deacs are hosting Twins Night on Saturday. All kids wearing their Twins Soccer gear will be admitted free of charge.
• Prior to the game against the Orange, there will be an on-field ceremony with Coach Bobby Muuss and the Wiley family. They will be joined by an honorary captain from Susan G. Komen.
Up Next
• Heading back out on the road, the Deacs will take on nationally-ranked Akron on Tuesday night in Ohio at 7 p.m.
• Wake Forest returns to conference play on Saturday, Sept. 26, back at home against Clemson. First kick at Spry is set for 7 p.m.
