Wake Forest Closes Homestand vs. UNC Asheville
The Demon Deacons look to close out its season-opening homestand with a perfect record on Tuesday when they welcome UNC Asheville to Spry Stadium.
Tuesday's contest will be the first match between the two since the 2000 season when Wake Forest topped the Bulldogs 7-0 on Oct. 10.
Last Time Out
In its first matchup against a nationally-ranked team, Wake Forest topped No. 19 Florida Gulf Coast 1-0 on Saturday night.
Michael Gamble scored the game's lone goal in the 17th minute, marking the second game in a row Gamble has found the back of the net.
Climbing The Polls
Wake Forest climbed higher into the TopDrawerSoccer.com national poll and checks in at No. 16 this week. Last week, Wake Forest was No. 25 in the poll.
In last week's NSCAA and Soccer America Polls, the Deacs were No. 20 in both polls. The two organizations release weekly polls on Tuesdays.
Additionally, Wake Forest was ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA South region poll last week. Only Virginia, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Coastal Carolina and Clemson checked in ahead of the Demon Deacons.
Scouting the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have started the season 2-0 with victories over LIU Brooklyn and USC Upstate. UNC Asheville's last scheduled contest against James Madison was canceled after 51 minutes of play due to bad weather that made its way to the area.
UNC Asheville is led by Zach Joens with two goals on the season. Thus far this year, the Bulldogs have outscored opponents 4-1 through their first two games.
Let Them Play!
Tuesday's game marks the second matchup in a row the Deacs' opponent had its previous game declared a no-contest in the second half due to weather. FGCU was six minutes short of its first win last week against UCF before weather wiped out the result.
Muuss At Home
Dating back to his tenure at Denver, head coach Bobby Muuss has not lost a home contest since Aug. 30, 2013, when the Pioneers lost to Charlotte 2-0 in Denver. Since that loss, Muuss has guided his teams to a 21-0-1 mark at home after starting the 2015 season 2-0 at Spry Stadium.
Up Next
With the four-match homestand concluded, Wake Forest will hit the road for the first time on Saturday for the ACC opener against Pittsburgh at 7 p.m.
