
Six Join Wake Forest as Early Enrollees

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest head football coach Dave Clawson today announced the enrollment of six recent high school graduates who will join the Demon Deacon football team this spring and begin classes today.
The six include WR Jeremiah Brown of High Point, NC (Southwest Guilford), RB Cade Carney of Advance, NC (Davidson Day), TE Brandon Chapman of Grove City, Ohio, P-PK Dom Maggio of Monkton, MD (Boys' Latin School), QB Jamie Newman of Graham, NC, and DB Traveon Redd of Martinsville, VA (Magna Vista).
Brown was a two-time all-area selection at Southwest Guilford High who had over 1,400 career receiving yards. Brown was a 3-star recruit by numerous recruiting publications and is considered one of the top 50 football recruits in North Carolina.
Carney was an all-state selection at Davidson Day School last fall who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns in helping the school to a state championship. A native of Advance, Carney played his first three seasons at Davie County High School.
Chapman is ranked as the 33rd-best tight end in the nation and a three-year starter at Grove City High School, outside of Columbus, Ohio. A 3-star recruit, Chapman is considered an outstanding blocker as well as a receiving threat.
Maggio is a punter and placekicker with outstanding high school credentials. A consensus all-state selection in Maryland, he prepped at The Boys' Latin School where he set the school record with 34 career field goals including a long of 55 yards. Maggio averaged 45.1 yards per punt as a senior.
Newman is a three-time selection to the Burlington Times-News All-Area team and ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the state by one recruiting outlet. Newman, from Graham, NC, was a four-year starter at quarterback who accounted for over 8,000 yards of total offense during his prep career.
Redd, from Martinsville, VA, was a two-way threat at Magna Vista High School as a quarterback, receiver and safety, though he is expected to play in the secondary at Wake Forest. Redd was a first team all-state pick and his district's defensive player of the year in 2015 while helping the Warriors to consecutive state titles. Redd is a 3-star athlete and one of the top 30 players in Virginia.
