WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer's Jack Harrison, the reigning ACC Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year, has elected to forgo his final three years at Wake Forest and has signed a Generation adidas contract, Major League Soccer (MLS) announced this week.
"It is with a heavy heart that I embark on the next journey of my life," Harrison said of leaving Wake Forest. "It has been an incredible experience playing with such a talented and inspiring group this year at Wake Forest. The fans and support from the community is something I will never forget. I want to give a big thank you to Coach Bobby Muuss, the staff, administration and all my teammates for their support. You all have helped me become the player and person I am today."
Harrison is one of five players who signed Generation adidas contracts since the 2015 season ended. Other players include Georgetown's Josh Yaro, Clemson's Andrew Tarbell, Akron's Richie Laryea, and Syracuse's Julian Buescher. Harrison and the other four players will enter the professional ranks through the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, Jan. 14, in Baltimore, Maryland. The draft is set to start at 1 p.m.
"We are sorry to see Jack leave but are extremely excited for the opportunity he has received from the league," said Wake Forest head coach Bobby Muuss. "I am confident Jack is going to have an incredible professional career and we wish him the best of luck as he takes the next step in his career."
Harrison led Wake Forest in 2015 with eight goals and 11 assists for 27 points. The point and assist totals mark the highest in program history by a freshman to date. In addition to being the first player in ACC history to be named Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year in the same season, Harrison was named a First Team All-American by the NSCAA and was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
