Wake Forest Opens Home ACC Play vs. Virginia
• Following two road matchups to start conference play, Wake Forest is set to welcome Virginia for its first home ACC contest of the season.
• Tip-off between the Deacs and Cavaliers at the LJVM Coliseum is set for 2 p.m.
Sunday's Promotions
• At Sunday's game, every fan in attendance has a chance to win one of two American Girl Doll giveaways just for being in attendance.
• Additionally, the first 250 kids 12 years old or younger will receive a free Wake Forest teddy bear-sized jersey.
• On your way out of the LJVM Coliseum on Sunday, be sure to pick up a free bag of Utz potato chips, courtesy of IMG.
Last Time Out
• Wake Forest battled back and forth with No. 18/16 Duke throughout the first 20 minutes of Thursday's game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but Duke proved to be too much in the second half as the Deacs fell 95-68.
• Elisa Penna scored 12 points in the first half, which included a three pointer with the clock winding down on the first quarter to tie the game at 25 after one. At half, Wake Forest trailed 43-39 before Duke used a 34-9 third quarter run to pull away from the Demon Deacons.
Scouting the Cavaliers
• Virginia has started ACC action with a 1-1 record, topping Miami 71-51 before falling 74-46 to No. 3 Notre Dame.
• Sunday's contest marks the first road ACC game of the season for the Cavaliers after hosting both the Hurricanes and Irish.
• UVA is led by Mikayla Venson, who is averaging 15 points per game in 16 starts. Faith Randolph is averaging 13.3 points per contest thus far while Lauren Moses is averaging 10.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Series History
• Historically, Wake Forest has struggled against Virginia in going 5-65 against the Cavaliers since the start of the series in 1975-76.
• The Demon Deacons have had some success in recent years against Virginia, though, as Wake Forest is 3-6 over the course of the last nine contests against UVA.
• Since Jen Hoover arrived in 2011-12, Wake Forest is 2-5 against Virginia with wins in 2013 and 2011.
Hoover's Virginia Connections
• Wake Forest head coach Jen Hoover is very familiar with the Cavaliers, as she was a member of the UVA coaching staff from 2003 to 2007.
• After a one-year stint at Memphis in 2007-08, Hoover went west to California to be an assistant coach under current Virginia boss Joanne Boyle for three seasons from 2008 to 2011.
• Boyle was hired by Virginia in April of 2011. Just days after Boyle took over at Virginia, Hoover took over as the head coach at High Point, where she coached for one season before coming to Wake Forest in 2012.
Next Up
• Continuing action in ACC play, Wake Forest will travel to Miami for a 7 p.m. game in Coral Gables, Florida, on Thursday, Jan. 14.
• This week, Miami dropped out of both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll, but the Hurricanes received 43 votes in the AP Poll and 62 in the Coaches Poll.
• All-time, Wake Forest is 8-8 against the Hurricanes. Wake Forest won the only meeting between the two last season on Feb. 26 by a score of 60-59 at the LJVM Coliseum. Amber Campbell hit a mid-range buzzer beater after receiving the inbound pass with 2.4 seconds to go.
