WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest safety Ryan Janvion has been named as one of 30 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision student-athletes who excel both on and off the field as candidates for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must participate as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Janvion is a four-year starter and a three-year captain for the Demon Deacons. He is 14th in school history with 309 career tackles after leading the team in tackles in both 2013 and 2014. He has made 40 career starts and has two career interceptions.
A 3.5 GPA student in business and enterprise management, Janvion is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
Off the field, Janvion has been involved in a host of community service projects including serving as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and as a board member and volunteer with Santa's Helper. He is a member of the Athletes-in-Action Servant Team and Worship Team and has volunteered at Brenner Children's Hospital. Janvion has been a participant in Hit the Bricks (cancer fund-raiser), Habitat for Humanity, and Project HOPE (Help Our People Eat).
Janvion is one of five candidates from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The others include Adam Bisnowaty and Mike Caprara of Pittsburgh, DeVon Edwards of Duke, and Justin Vogel of Miami (FL).
To determine the final Senior CLASS Award winner, the 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January.
