CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team had a strong start at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, taking the 18-hole lead after Friday's play at the Finley Golf Course. The Demon Deacons shot 6-under during the opening round, highlighted by a 5-under round of 67 by individual leader Jennifer Kupcho.

Wake Forest holds a one-shot lead over Ohio State (5-under), while Alabama (3-under) and Arkansas (2-under) are the only other teams under par after the opening round.

"I am really excited about how the team is playing," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "The students have worked hard, especially with their wedges, and it showed today. Jennifer had an outstanding day and led our team. We need to continue to do the little things and make good decisions on the course. It was a great start to the weekend."

Antonia Eberhard is also in the top-10 of the individual leaderboard after the opening round. She is T-7th after posting a 2-under round of 70. Sierra Sims is even after shooting par on all 18 holes on Friday. Sierra Brooks posted a 1-over round of 73 to open the tournament. Erica Herr rounded out the Deacon lineup with a 3-over round of 75, while Mathilda Cappeliez shot 2-over while playing as an individual.

The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday in Chapel Hill.
