Deacs Continue Strong Play in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team continued its strong play at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, holding a share of the 36-hole lead after Saturday's play at the Finley Golf Course. The Demon Deacons are tied with Alabama at 7-under to top the team leaderboard while Jennifer Kupcho holds the individual lead at 9-under.
Wake Forest shot a 1-under second round on Saturday to move to 7-under for the tournament, where the Deacs share the lead with Alabama, the nation's top-ranked team. Ohio State is one shot back at 6-under while Arkansas is in fourth at 3-under. Those four teams are the only squads under par following the second round.
"We are excited to be in contention and playing in the final group tomorrow," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "Our students are playing well and it should be a lot of fun. Jennifer has had two outstanding days. We need to go and keep doing the things that got us in this position."
Kupcho followed a 5-under 67 on Friday with a 4-under 68 in the second round on Saturday. At 9-under, she holds a three-shot lead on the individual leaderboard after two rounds.
Sierra Sims had her second consecutive round of even par 72 on Saturday and is T-13th at even par for the tournament. Erica Herr also shot even par 72 on Saturday and is at 3-over for the tournament. Sierra Brooks shot a 3-over 75 in the second round to move to 4-over for the tournament. Antonia Eberhard rounded out the Deacon lineup with a 4-over 76 and is 2-over through two rounds.
The tournament concludes Sunday in Chapel Hill.
