The Matchup
• Wake Forest heads into the final stretch of the regular season, taking on ACC rival Syracuse at Spry Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m., as both teams vie to stay in contention for the eight ACC Tournament slots.
Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons snapped a six-game skid by taking down No. 25-ranked Boston College on Saturday by a 2-0 score. Caroline Wootten scored her second game-winner of the season off a Kahla Seymour assist, while Reci Smith tallied her first-career score off a Maddie Huster corner kick. Lindsay Preston made a pair of saves for the shutout.
• Huster was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. She tallied her fourth assist on a corner kick and anchored a back line which limited Boston College, a top-10 scoring offense nationally, to a season-low two shots on goal.
• Three Demon Deacons have double-digit point totals: Maddie Huster (5 goals, 4 assists, 14 points), Bayley Feist (4g, 2 a, 10 pts) and Peyton Perea (5g, 10 pts). Caroline Wootten (2g, 3a, 7 pts), Sarah Teegarden (2g, 1a, 5 pts), Reci Smith (1g, 2a, 4 pts), Jenna Romano (2g, 4 pts), Sarah Medina (1g, 2a, 4 pts) and Maddie Brock (1g, 2a, 4 pts) also have at least four points apiece.
• Wake Forest went unbeaten in non-conference play for just the second time in program history. The Deacs also accomplished the feat in 2013.
Senior Spotlight
• Instead of one big senior day this year, Wake Forest is honoring a senior at each of the final seven home games. The Deacs have already honored Taylor Kerxton, Jenna Romano, Maddie Brock, Kendal Robino and Sarah Teegarden. Kendall Fischlein will be recognized prior to Thursday's game.
• Fischlein has played in 66 career games, starting all but one. She has totaled three goals and eight assists for 14 points.
Opponent and Series History
• Syracuse enters the game with an 8-5-3 overall record, including a 1-4-2 mark in the ACC. The last two Sundays, the Orange played Florida State to a 1-1 draw (Oct. 9), and beat Pittsburgh by a 1-0 margin (Oct. 16).
• Three team members are tied for the team lead with seven points apiece. Eva Gordon and Stephanie Skilton both have three goals and an assist, while Taylor Bennett has scored twice with three assists. In goal, Courtney Brosnan has started every game, tallying six shutouts on a .802 save percentage and 1.09 GAA.
• Wake Forest holds a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 2006. However, the Orange claimed a 1-0 win in New York last year, and played the Deacs to a scoreless draw in Winston-Salem in 2014.
Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest plays in its home finale on Sunday, taking on No. 11-ranked Notre Dame at noon on RSN, which includes Fox Sports South.
