The Matchup
• Wake Forest plays its final game of the regular season against conference foe Virginia Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
Wake Forest Storylines
• The Demon Deacons have recorded wins in two of their last three games, but most recently fell to No. 11 Notre Dame, 1-0, on a goal in the 88th minute. Before that, Wake Forest knocked off No. 25 Boston College, 2-0, and Syracuse in double overtime, 3-2, in back-to-back games.
• Maddie Huster was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18. She tallied her fourth assist on a corner kick and anchored a back line which limited Boston College, a top-10 scoring offense nationally, to a season-low two shots on goal, in a 2-0 Wake Forest victory on Oct. 15.
• Three Demon Deacons have double-digit point totals: Maddie Huster (5 goals, 4 assists, 14 points), Bayley Feist (5g, 2 a, 12 pts) and Peyton Perea (6g, 12 pts). Caroline Wootten (2g, 3a, 7 pts), Sarah Teegarden (3g, 1a, 7 pts), Reci Smith (1g, 3a, 5 pts), Sarah Medina (1g, 3a, 5 pts), Jenna Romano (2g, 4 pts) and Maddie Brock (1g, 2a, 4 pts) also have at least four points apiece.
• Wake Forest went unbeaten in non-conference play for just the second time in program history. The Deacs also accomplished the feat in 2013.
Opponent and Series History
• The back-and-forth series between Wake Forest and Virginia Tech is tied at 6-6-2, though the Hokies have the advantage in recent years. The Demon Deacons have tallied just one win (2014) over the past eight meetings. Wake Forest has experienced success in Blacksburg, though, winning in 2014, falling in OT in 2013, drawing in 2010 and winning in 2008 and 2006 for a 3-1-1 record over the last five meetings.
• The Hokies are led offensively by Murielle Tiernan (nine goals) and Alani Johnson (six goals). Mandy McGlynn has made 15 starts in goal for a 10-4-1 record, .750 save percentage and 1.25 GAA, while Blayne Fink is 0-1-2 with a .833 save percentage and 0.79 GAA.
• The Hokies are 10-5-3 overall and 2-4-3 in conference play. Virginia Tech is 0-1-2 since back-to-back wins over Syracuse and Boston College on Oct. 6 and 9.
Looking Ahead
• While Wake Forest has been eliminated from ACC Tournament contention, its NCAA Tournament hopes are still alive thanks to clinching a winning record. The NCAA Division I Selection Show will air on Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
