WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team began play Friday at the Landfall Tradition with a strong opening round at the Dye Course of the Country Club of Landfall. The Demon Deacons shot an even par first round 288 and are in second place after 18 holes.
Oklahoma leads the tournament, which features eight top-25 teams, at 4-under, four strokes ahead of the 13th-ranked Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest was led on Friday by Sierra Sims and Erica Herr, who both shot a 1-under round of 71 and are tied for fifth place. Antonia Eberhard and Jennifer Kupcho each shot a 1-over round of 73 to round out the Demon Deacons' scoring four. Sierra Brooks shot a 2-over 74, while Mathilda Cappeliez, playing as an individual, shot an even par 72.
"Our team played very solidly today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "We got behind a little at the beginning but finished with a few birdies at the end. Erica hung tough today after a double on the first hole and finished with two birdies. Sierra Sims made an important birdie for us on 17. We are in contention and looking forward to tomorrow."
The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall.
