Deacs Lead After Day Two of Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team surged to the lead at the Landfall Tradition during Saturday's second round at the Dye Course of the Country Club of Landfall. The Demon Deacons shot a 4-under round of 284 on Saturday to move to 4-under for the tournament and take a seven-stroke lead into the final round. .
The Demon Deacons are the only team under par after 36 holes of the event, which features eight top-25 teams. South Carolina and Oklahoma are tied for second at 3-over par, while Purdue and Furman are at 4-over.
Wake Forest was led by Jennifer Kupcho, who holds the 36-hole individual lead at 5-under. After being 1-over through eight holes of her round, she birdied seven of the final 10 holes to shoot a 6-under 66.
Sierra Sims and Erica Herr are both tied for sixth place at 2-under as each shot a 1-under 71 for the second straight day. Sierra Brooks had a 4-over 76 to round out the scoring four for the Demon Deacons.
"It was an awesome team effort today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "We had three players under par and the others grinded and never gave up. Jennifer was terrific today with six birdies on the back nine. Sierra and Erica played steady and strong. We need to keep doing the things we do every day during tomorrow's round."
The tournament concludes Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall. The Demon Deacons, having won the Tar Heel Invitational two weeks ago, will be looking for consecutive wins for the first time since the 2008-09 season when they won the same two events.
