CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team remained in third place at the Cougar Classic following second round play Monday at Yeaman's Hall Club. The Demon Deacons shot a 3-under round of 285 and are at 9-under for the tournament through two rounds.
Senior Sierra Sims, who has finished in the top five at the Cougar Classic in each of the past two years, maintained a share of the individual lead with a 3-under second round 69. She is one of two players tied for the lead at 9-under for the tournament.
Jennifer Kupcho moved up to 11th place with a 2-under 70 on Monday and is at 3-under for the tournament. Freshmen Sierra Brooks and Mathilda Cappeliez both shot 1-over rounds of 73 on Monday to round out the scoring four for the Demon Deacons. Antonia Eberhard shot a 3-over second round of 75 and is 1-under for the tournament.
"Our team played solidly today," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "Sierra Sims continued her stellar play with 3-under to get to 9-under for two days. Jennifer played well but could have scored much better if a few more short birdie putts had dropped. Mathilda, Sierra Brooks and Toni all had solid rounds. This team is on the verge of breaking through with a lot of low numbers. I have seen so much improvement the last two days. We are glad to be in the final pairing tomorrow."
Furman holds the 36-hole lead at 18-under, followed by North Carolina at 17-under. The Deacs are tied with UCF for third place at 9-under.
The tournament concludes Tuesday in Charleston.
