FORT WORTH, Texas. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team concluded play at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, shooting 13-over during the final round at Colonial Country Club. The Demon Deacons finished in eighth place at 24-over for the tournament, which featured nine of the top 14 teams in the nation.
Vanderbilt won the title at 1-under, edging Florida at even par. Both those teams shot 8-over on Tuesday to tie for the low round of the day.
"On the front nine, we played the way that Arnold Palmer would have wanted," said head coach Jerry Haas. "There's lots for us to learn from those last nine holes and we will use this experience to get better. We will be right with these teams at the end of the year."
Will Zalatoris, playing near his hometown of Plano, posted another top-10 finish for the Deacs. He was seventh at even par for the tournament after an even-par 70 final round.
Cameron Young and Eric Bae each shot a 4-over 74 on Tuesday. Young finished T-14th at 3-over for the tournament, while Bae was T-35th at 9-over. Woody Woodward shot a 5-over 75 and Paul McBride shot a 7-over 77 during the final round as both finished the event at 16-over.
The Demon Deacons return to action Oct. 21-23 at the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga. Wake Forest was co-champion of the event last year, one of four victories in 2015-16 for the squad.
