WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A career performance from Konstantinos Mitoglou led the Demon Deacons to a 110-76 victory over the LSU Tigers Thursday night in the LJVM Coliseum.
The victory snapped a four-game winning streak for the Tigers (8-3) while allowing the Deacs to finish 9-3 in nonconference play and a perfect 5-0 at home.
The win also marks the second time this season the Deacs have found themselves in triple digits and the sixth time in program history they surpassed the century mark at home. The Deacs have recorded two 100+ point games in a season for the first time since the 2004-05 while the 34-point win is the seventh double-digit win for the Deacs this season.
Wake Forest shot 16-for-26 from the three-point line, which ties for the third-most three-point field goals in single game history , the most since 2006-07.
Mitoglou had a stellar night to lead the Demon Deacons. He posted a career high 28 points thanks to his 10-for-14 shooting while going 8-for-11 from behind the arc. He replaced his previous highs of 26 points recorded at Syracuse Jan. 1, 2015 and 6 shots from behind the arc achieved twice in his career. His eight total triples are tied for third most in program history and are the most by an ACC player this season.
Bryant Crawford recorded his first double-double for the Deacs with 20 points, which matched a season high, and 11 assists, which set a career high.
Six Demon Deacons recorded double-digit points for the second time this season. Mitoglou and Crawford tallied 28 and 20, respectively, while Mitchell Wilbekin totaled 10 points for the Demon Deacons with his 3-for-4 shooting from the three-point arc. Austin Arians went 5-for-8 including 3-for-5 from the three while Keyshawn Woods went 6-for-7 for 14 points and John Collins went 5-for-8 for 15 points.
The Demon Deacons got off to a hot start with a quick three-pointer from Mitoglou and a layup from Crawford. Down 5-0, the Tigers called their first timeout but the Deacs continued to build their advantage to 10-0. LSU finally got on the board with a pair of free throws from Brandon Sampson with 16:48 to go. The remainder of the half consisted of runs and droughts with Wake Forest leading by 10 on three separate occasions while LSU managed to bring the game within one. The Deacs entered halftime up five, 43-38.
The Deacs started the second half on a 9-0 run never looked back. Wake Forest shot 73.5 percent in the second half, including 78.6 from behind the arc. The Deacs continued to build a lead and found themselves up 35 points with 1:03 remaining in the contest, which marked the largest lead of the season. Mitoglou continued to excel adding 12 more points and four more goals from behind the arc. The 67 points scored in the second half were the second most in program history, behind 68 scored against St. Joseph's in 1975.
Wake Forest finished the night shooting 59.4 percent, marking the seventh time this season the Deacs shot 50.0 percent or better.
