WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer head coach Bobby Muuss released the program's five-game spring schedule on Monday. The second-year head coach also announced a new tradition for the program starting in 2016, as it will host Spring Soccer Fest on April 16 at Spry Stadium.
"Throughout last season, Wake Forest Nation played such a big role in helping us make our run to the Elite Eight with its unwavering support from start to finish," Muuss said. "While we can't thank each and every single one of the 46,278 fans that made it to Spry Stadium for a game last season, we want to invite fans back out for a game as the weather warms up in April to relive the passion and keep the momentum from the fan base as we get set to go into the summer months preparing for another great season starting in August."
Spring Soccer Fest will be held in conjunction with the final game of Wake Forest's 2016 spring schedule against VCU. Tickets will cost $6 for general fans, $3 for groups of 10 or more and $3 for Walt Chyzowych Alumni Hill. Tickets can be purchased today by visiting WakeForestSports.com/Tickets, by visiting Bridger Field House between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by calling the ticket office at (336) 758-3322, extension 2.
Events with Spring Soccer Fest include an auction with Wake Forest jerseys and jerseys of former Demon Deacons now playing in the pros, a free clinic on April 15 and the chance to mingle with current Wake Forest players prior to Sunday's game against the Rams. More information about Spring Soccer Fest will be made available as the event nears. All proceeds from Spring Soccer Fest will go to the men's soccer program as it continues its trek back to winning national championships.
This season, the Demon Deacons' spring slate includes three games inside the friendly confines of Spry Stadium, a road trip to Kentucky and a matchup at Greensboro, North Carolina's Bryan Park.
Though Wake Forest's stateside games will kick off on March 19, the Demon Deacons will battle three opponents while on their trip to Spain from March 4 through March 13. On March 7, the Deacs will take on Atlético de Madrid and will face Real Madrid the following afternoon on March 8. In Barcelona, Wake Forest's final game in Spain will be against UE Cornellá on March 10.
After returning from Spain, Wake Forest opens a five-game stretch throughout March and April on March 19 against ACC foe Virginia Tech. The contest against the Hokies is set for 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium. Five days later, the Deacs will host their second spring game on March 24 against UNCG. Opening kick between the Demon Deacons and Spartans is also set for 7 p.m.
To open April, Wake Forest will travel to Kentucky on April 2 for a 7 p.m. game against the Wildcats before playing in Greensboro on April 9 against Elon. During the 2015 season, Wake Forest beat Kentucky 3-0 in a preseason exhibition and fell 1-0 to Elon in September, marking the Demon Deacons' first loss of the season.
Wake Forest closes out the schedule with Spring Soccer Fest against VCU on April 16. Only the April 16 match will be charged. The other two home matches against Virginia Tech and UNCG will be free.
