Deacs Battle Yellow Jackets for Second Time in Five Days
In Thursday's second-round matchup in the ACC Tournament, Wake Forest will take on seventh-seeded Georgia Tech for the second time in five days after playing the Yellow Jackets in the season finale on Feb. 28.
First tip is set for 6 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum on Thursday evening. The game is set to air on RSN.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest used two double-digit runs in the first half to build a 20-point lead on the Tigers on the way to the 73-58 victory.
Wake Forest led 40-22 at half as Milan Quinn had a double-double in the first 20 minutes with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She finished the game with 20 points and 15 boards.
Ariel Stephenson finished with 19 points while Amber Campbell rounded out the double-figure scorers with 15 points.
Wake Forest pulled down 54 rebounds in the game, the most in a single game this season. The Deacs outrebounded the Tigers by 24 boards in the game.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech has not played since beating Wake Forest 66-51 on Sunday, Feb. 28, in Atlanta.
The seventh-seeded Yellow Jackets are led by All-ACC First Teamer Aaliyah Whiteside, who averages 19.4 points per game. Roddreka Rogers is also averaging double figures with 10.4 points per game.
Series History
The Yellow Jackets have gotten the best of Wake Forest over the years, leading the all-time series 41-24.
Wake Forest's last win over Georgia Tech came in the 2013 ACC Tournament. That day, the 10th-seeded Deacs knocked off the seventh-seeded Jackets 86-67.
All-Freshman Team
Ariel Stephenson was named to the ACC All-Freshman team on Tuesday. The team was compiled via a vote by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Stephenson is averaging 12.3 points this season and has scored in double figures 20 times this season, the fourth most occurrences in the ACC among freshmen.
Time to Shine
Since the start of the 2009 ACC Tournament, Wake Forest has posted a record of 10-7. Prior to the 2009 tournament, the Deacs went 8-31 over the course of the previous 31 tournaments dating back to 1978.
Last season, Wake Forest won two games as the No. 13 seed, beating 12th-seeded Boston College and fifth-seeded Syracuse before falling to fourth-seeded Duke.
Queens of the State
After beating Duke on Feb. 14, Wake Forest has topped Duke, North Carolina and NC State in the same season for just the second time in program history. The first occurrence came during the 1987-88 season.
Next Time Out
Should the Demon Deacons advance, Wake Forest would take on second-seeded Louisville on Friday evening at 6 p.m. inside the Greensboro Coliseum.
The meeting would be the first in the ACC Tournament between the Deacs and Cardinals, as Louisville just joined the ACC.
Earlier this season, Louisville beat Wake Forest 78-54 on Jan. 31 in Kentucky.
