MARANA, Ariz. – The Wake Forest men's golf team continued play Tuesday at the NCAA Tucson Regional with the second round at The Gallery Golf Club. The Demon Deacons shot a 7-over round of 295 during Tuesday's play and are in sixth place at 5-over through 36 holes.
The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 27-June 1 in Eugene, Ore. Wake Forest will enter Wednesday's final round one shot behind fifth-place California (4-over), who currently holds the final qualifying place.
"No matter what place we were in going into the last round, we would need to play well to advance," said head coach Jerry Haas. "The teams around us will be in our groups, so the challenge will be right in front of us. We will be off early, so let's Go Deacs!"
Davis Womble led the Demon Deacons on Tuesday by shooting a 2-under 70 as he moved into the individual top 10 at 2-under for the tournament. He shot 4-under on the back nine, including three straight birdies to close out his round.
Cameron Young had a 2-over round of 74, Kyle Sterbinsky shot a 3-over round of 75 and Will Zalatoris posted a 4-over round of 76 to round out the scoring four for Wake Forest on Tuesday. Paul McBride rounded out the Demon Deacon lineup with a round of 79.
The NCAA Tucson Regional concludes Wednesday at The Gallery Golf Club.
