WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men's soccer captains Ian Harkes and Jacori Hayes have been named among Top Drawer Soccer's top 10 midfielders in the nation. The Demon Deacons are one of three teams with two players named to the list.
Harkes played a big role at central midfield in 2015 for Wake Forest. Though he finished the season with one goal and four assists, the junior helped anchor the Deacs' defensive unit as Wake Forest allowed just 13 goals on the year while scoring 48 of their own.
Hayes had a breakout year in 2015 with five goals and five assists for 15 points. All five of his goals were game-winning strikes, as he put home the clinching goals against Santa Clara, South Carolina, North Carolina and in both games against Louisville.
Both Harkes and Hayes served as team captains in 2015 and were named captains for 2016 in April. They will be joined by goalkeeper Alec Ferrell, serving as the team's third captain. Ferrell was named one of the top goalkeepers in the country by Top Drawer Soccer last month.
Wake Forest is set to open the 2016 regular season on August 26 against St. Louis at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium. The regular-season opener will come after a road exhibition against Furman on August 14 and a home tune-up against UNCW on August 20. Tickets for the 2016 season will go on sale in July.
