FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. -- Wake Forest safety Ryan Janvion is one of 88 players named to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy. The announcement marks the third straight season in which Janvion has been named to the preseason watch list.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Janvion, a 5-11, 190-pound redshirt senior from Miami, Fla. (Dade Christian), has been a three-year starter for the Demon Deacons. A co-captain for the third consecutive year, Janvion has amassed 282 career tackles and enters his senior season 21st in school history in career tackles.
Janvion has been heavily involved in community service initiatives. He has volunteered with Project H.O.P.E, DESK, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. He is a board member of Santa's Helper, a United Way volunteer, a Student-Athlete Career Night volunteer and a team leader in Athletes in Action.
Janvion was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District team in both 2014 and 2015, and has been named to the ACC All-Academic team in each of the past three seasons.
