WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team erased a halftime deficit, playing Coastal Carolina to a 1-1 draw in the final exhibition game at Spry Stadium on Saturday night.
Peyton Perea found the back of the net for the Demon Deacons for a 65th-minute equalizer, scoring far post after Caroline Wootten dribbled past a defender and sent a cross through the box.
Wake Forest conceded a penalty kick for the second straight exhibition, with Daniella Famili executing the 17th-minute penalty to give the Chanticleers a 1-0 advantage before Perea's equalizer.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Deacons dominated play in the second half, holding a 12-3 shots advantage in the period. Wootten nearly earned the game-winner, but CCU keeper Becca Austin got enough of her fingertips on the shot to deflect the ball off the crossbar.
Eleven different Deacs took shots, as Wake Forest out-shot Coastal by a 17-7 margin. Perea led the way with three, while Amber Adams also took a team-high three for the Chanticleers.
Lindsay Preston made four saves in net for the Deacs, only allowing the PK past her. Austin saved five of the Deacons' six shots on goal.
The teams did not play any overtime periods following the 90 minutes of regulation.
Wake Forest now turns its sights to the regular season opener, set for Aug. 19 against San Diego at 7:30 p.m.
