The Match-Up
Wake Forest opens the 2016 season on Thursday, September 1, as the Demon Deacons play host to Tulane at BB&T Field.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. Taylor Zarzour and former Wake Forest head coach Al Groh are on the call.
Thursday's game can also be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network. Stan Cotten and Tommy Elrod have the call with Dave Goren reporting from the sideline.
Wake Forest Storylines
Wake Forest enters its third season under head coach David Clawson after a 3-9 season in 2015.
Junior tight end Cam Serigne was named to the Mackey Award preseason watch list, presented annually to the top tight end in the country.
John Wolford was named the team's starting quarterback at the end of fall camp. A starter in each of the last two seasons, Wolford has started 22 career games and has 3,828 career passing yards.
The Demon Deacons welcome 29 freshmen to their roster, with six members enrolling early to participate in spring practice.
Freshman Cade Carney is expected to be the first true freshman running back for Wake Forest in at least the past 65 years.
The Opposition & Series History
Tulane is led by first-year head coach Willie Fritz, and the two programs are meeting for the first time in 21 years.
Tulane leads the all-time series 2-0, with the teams meeting in 1995 and 1959.
Thursday is the first time the teams will meet at Wake Forest, as each of the first two meetings took place in New Orleans.
The Green Wave finished 2015 with a 3-9 record and a 1-7 mark in AAC play.
Looking Ahead
Wake Forest hits the road for its first road contest of the season as it travels to Durham, North Carolina, to take on Duke on September 10.
The game, the first ACC league game for both teams, is set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
