Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson

Opening Statement:
"We're excited to be 1-0. We thought our defense just did an incredible job today, play after play after play. At times on the short field, we had a lot of guys step up. Obviously on offense we weren't as productive as we needed to be. We had a really good camp. I didn't think this would happen but certainly credit to Tulane. They're a scrappy group and they were really well prepared. We didn't make explosive plays. One of the things we thought we did a better job in camp is we got a lot more explosive plays. We didn't make any plays on the deep ball. It looks a lot like the other games. And again, we're 1-0 and we're excited. There's a lot to teach off of. Clearly we have to be more productive on offense. Certainly that was the disappointment of the night and again, I'd rather be coaching those mistakes being 1-0. We didn't turn the football over, which was a problem the last two years. So I'm glad we took care of the football. We made some first downs at the end there. It would of been nice to get one more first down and not have to punt it. But again, I like to give credit to Coach Fritz and the whole Tulane football team. Those guys did a great job in preparation. Their kids played their hearts out and our kids did too. It was a good heart-fought win."

On alternating plays at quarterback and whether that will continue:
"No. Obviously we're doing certain things with Kendal. For a drive there he gave us a real spark. We didn't run that many plays. Those guys did a great job making first downs and keeping us on the field."

On Julius Jackson:
"He did a great job. He hasn't played a lot and got his opportunity today. He had a couple of sacks. I said ‘Hey, congratulations you got your first sack.' He said, ‘No coach. I got my first three sacks.'"

Wake Forest Redshirt Senior Offensive Lineman Tyler Hayworth

On tonight's game:
"I think, overall, we executed decently. There are things that we need to fix. We're going to watch film on Saturday, get these things corrected and we'll come out and push harder for Duke. We have to work harder on the practice field and in meetings and just execute better. That was good defense though, really good up front, way better than what their record was last year. Their new coaching staff has their defense going in a great direction. "

On tonight's offense:
"I think it was first game jitters. We had some new guys and it's the first of the year. The first game is a bit of a different feel. We got to knock pads and get that out of the way and now we need to keep on going."

Wake Forest Sophomore Quarterback Kendall Hinton

On switching quarterbacks:
"It can get tough to find a rhythm but it's coaches decision. We [John Wolford and I] complement each other and we'll work on finding a medium in there."

On tonight's offense:
"Our passing game went really well in training camp this summer but today we didn't get as many passes completed as we wanted to. I have to give credit to our defense for really biting down and getting us through this game. We have a lot to work on. Tulane's corners played a great game. We didn't get open on deep balls like I believe we should have. Like I said in training camp, we connected a lot and it was going great so we just have to get into the film room and see where we can improve."

On looking forward:
"The defense definitely carried us this game and got us through it. It takes offense a little bit longer to come together so we'll get in the film room and get better as a team and work on those missed assignments and small things. I think we'll click a lot better next week."

Wake Forest Junior Quarterback John Wolford

On tonight's game:
"We missed a few deep balls that were an inch away. We have to be more explosive. If you've watched our offense play all camp and prepare for this game, out there on the field was an anomaly. I think we're confident. We're going to be okay. There's no reason to abandon ship."

On looking forward:
"Tonight's defense was really good. I'm not worried. We won the game but now we just have to play better."

Tulane Head Coach Willie Fritz

On missed opportunities:
"It was very disappointing. We had a few passing situations, and obviously that is not our strength. We had a tough time protecting tonight and it was a four-man rush most of the time. The whole last series was a two or three-man rush. It was just a lot of guys playing their first ball game. Everybody has to do their job, and someone has to make a play."

On defensive stand:
"The one touchdown they scored, I think we missed three tackles on that drive. If we held them to a field goal we pitch a shutout. It's all so different. We don't have a ton of guys that will fit in a few spots. We just don't know how to tackle. At practice, I can work all the drills I want, but it's different when you go out there and do it. I think we'll be better tackling in game two rather than game one."

On getting the job done:
"When we get into these types of situations, we have to do our job and make a play. There's probably about 20 plays we'll go back and look at. If we would have made the play we would have a chance. We'll get better. We're going to improve, and we'll get better."
