KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Wake Forest women's golf team opened the 2016-17 season Monday with the first two rounds of the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The Demon Deacons are tied for ninth place at 16-over after 36 holes.
"We obviously would have liked to have played better," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "We were not as sharp as we needed to be, especially in regard to our short games, and the Donald Ross greens were tricky. However, we are looking forward to tomorrow and playing better."
Wake Forest was led by Jennifer Kupcho, who is T-10th on the individual leaderboard at 1-over. She shot a 3-over 74 in the morning before firing a 2-under 69 in the afternoon.
Freshman Sierra Brooks is T-28th in her collegiate debut with a score of 4-over. She shot even par 71 in the first round before a second round of 75. Sierra Sims is T-35th at 5-over after rounds of 72 and 75. Erica Herr had rounds of 73 and 75 and is T-46th at 6-over.
The final round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship will be Tuesday at the Cherokee Country Club.
