KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Wake Forest women's golf team concluded its first event of the 2016-17 season Tuesday with the third round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The Demon Deacons shot 11-over during the final round to finish T-10th at 27-over.

Wake Forest was led by sophomore Jennifer Kupcho, who finished in the top 10 of the opening event of the season after accomplishing the feat seven times as a freshman. She shot even par 71 on Tuesday to finish T-8th at 1-over for the tournament.

Freshman Sierra Brooks also shot even par 71 on Tuesday to finish in the top 20 of her collegiate debut, T-19th at 4-over. Erica Herr was T-38th at 9-over after her third consecutive round of 74. Sierra Sims finished T-54th at 13-over.

"It was a disappointing finish because we know we are a better team," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "However, Jennifer started off the season with a top 10 and both Sierra Brooks and Erica Herr played solidly. We have some work to do and we will get to it when we return to campus."

The Demon Deacons will return to action October 2-4 with the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.
