GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest women's basketball's upcoming 2016-17 schedule was completed Thursday with the release of the ACC conference schedule by the league office. Overall, Wake Forest will host 16 home games at LJVM Coliseum.
"Year in and year out, the ACC presents a strong challenge each night our team takes the floor and we're excited to have our challenging 2016-17 schedule finalized," said Wake Forest head coach Jen Hoover. "The opportunity to welcome top-notch programs to the Coliseum and travel to multiple hostile environments against excellent teams helps us strive to reach our goals as a program as we look to return to postseason play again this season."
This season, Wake Forest will play 29 regular-season games and is set to host local rivals NC State and Duke – teams Wake Forest beat at home last season – throughout the ACC conference slate in January and February. In all, 13 of the Deacs' opponents played in the NCAA Tournament or WNIT last season. Seven of those teams went to the NCAA Tournament while Syracuse made a run to the national championship game.
Set to make the trip to Winston-Salem this season are NC State (Jan. 8), Clemson (Jan. 12), Georgia Tech (Jan. 22), Boston College (Jan. 26), Miami (Feb. 2), Pittsburgh (Feb. 5), Duke (Feb. 16) and Louisville (Feb. 26).
Road trips during conference action this season for Wake Forest include the Deacs' ACC opener on Jan. 5 at Notre Dame, Virginia Tech (Jan. 16), North Carolina (Jan. 19), Duke (Jan. 29), Florida State (Feb. 9), Virginia (Feb. 12), NC State (Feb. 19) and Syracuse (Feb. 23).
Four games during the conference slate are scheduled to air on Regional Sports Networks. Wake Forest's contest against NC State on Jan. 8 is set for 3 p.m. on RSN, followed by back-to-back games in January on Jan. 16 at Virginia Tech and Jan. 19 at North Carolina. The last game of January at Duke on Jan. 29 is the final game for the Deacs scheduled to air on RSN.
Wake Forest will also have its Feb. 19 contest at NC State aired on ESPNU as part of Hoops for Hope. That game will tip at 2 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Following the regular season, Wake Forest will look to run its current conference-best streak to nine years in a row winning at least one game in the tournament. A season ago, the Deacs handled Clemson before dropping a heartbreaker in the final seconds to Georgia Tech in the second round.
Wake Forest's nonconference slate was released earlier this month. It is set to get underway on Nov. 11 with a home matchup against Navy at LJVM Coliseum. The contest is part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team, which hosts Radford.
